More environmental and climate protection through more careful use of natural resources is one of the top issues when it comes to packaging for the consumer goods industry. The focus of our packaging development is on article concepts that reduce the amount of material and energy used in production without compromising the functionality of the product. Wherever possible, we focus on multiple use. Ideally, the material cycle should be closed through complete recycling. Existing products are also reviewed and continuously improved with regard to climate protection and resource conservation. Another starting point is logistics: optimizations that lead to better space utilization in storage and transport. The development of monomaterial packaging, i.e. single-material packaging, poses a particular challenge for packaging design. Our monomaterial solutions can be summarized in three concepts:

Thermoforming
with IML.
The lightest form of IML packaging.
Previously, IML was only used for injection-molded packaging. By implementing a thermoformed dairy cup with IML, we combine our long-standing expertise in both IML and thermoforming technologies. Through our innovative and efficient T-IML process, cups can be manufactured that are very lightweight while being decorated with high-quality graphics. This makes it the optimal foundation for mono-material packaging. Due to the same base material for both label and plastic article, IML-decorated items are optimally recyclable.

Injecion-Moulding
with IML.
Injection molding could not be any lighter.
Weight reduction of approximately 20% compared to a standard injection-molded cup is achieved through reinforced longitudinal ribs. With In-Mould Labeling, the cup is decorated with high-quality pre-printed plastic labels during the manufacturing process. With the same base material for both label and container, recycling of IML-decorated packaging is seamlessly possible.

Monomaterial-
Pouches.
More space-saving than bottles and canisters.
Flexible packaging is lightweight, space-saving, and requires minimal material usage. With our low-seal materials for spouts, recyclable stand-up pouches can now be produced using both ultrasonic processes and low-temperature sealing methods. The added benefit: Our patented wave structure as a sealing base protects the film and reduces stress on sensitive mono-material pouches. Additionally, our screw caps are available with and without tamper-evident closures in both PP and PE, enabling the creation of fully recyclable pouches.

PACKAGING
What do we mean by future-proof packaging?
The EU Packaging & Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR) formulates the framework conditions for how packaging should be designed in the future. Unnecessary packaging and packaging waste should be reduced and reusable systems and recycling promoted. In our opinion, plastic packaging meets precisely these requirements, as plastic is more efficient than alternative materials. This efficiency can be seen in various areas along the supply chain:
MATERIAL
We reduce the use of materials through resource-saving article concepts and efficient production processes.
Greenhouse-GAS-
EMISSIONS
The use of recyclates, high recyclability and environmentally friendly production conditions can maximize GHG reduction.
LOGISTICS &
PROCESS
Optimizing the item design improves stackability and nestability - maximizing the quantity per packaging unit and minimizing the amount of waste in production.
STORAGE &
ENERGY
The optimized nestability makes optimal use of existing capacities. The space required for internal and external logistics is reduced - resulting in cost savings.
