Lohne, July 2019. – Pöppelmann KAPSTO® expands its product range: The industry leader for plastic plugs and caps for the protection of external threads, bolts, wires and more in manufacturing, storage and transport now offers a new product portfolio of thermoformed articles. The newly introduced process is ideally suited for producing particularly thin-walled, large-format articles. The protective elements are characterized by considerable material reductions, and simple, ergonomic handling. The nesting of the parts allows for increased package density resulting in logistics and freight savings. When introducing thermoforming, Pöppelmann KAPSTO® benefited from a technology transfer from within the Pöppelmann Group, as the thermoforming Know-How has been available for many years in other divisions.
The thermoforming process is particularly advantageous for articles that cover large areas, e.g. in pipeline construction or in the automotive industry. In thermoforming, pre-produced sheets are used from which the molded parts are produced in specialized tools under the influence of heat and vacuum. Pöppelmann KAPSTO® manufactures these foils in-house and is therefore able to implement even unique materials and colors. The new process is suitable for both small and large quanitities. Custom designs are also possible. The thermoformed protective elements can also provide marketing benefits: All standard articles can be individualized with only little effort by a centrally inserted engraving with a company logo. The thermoforming process stands for more sustainability overall: For thermoformed protective elements, the use of materials is reduced by up to 70%. The design of the new standard series incorporates advanced geometry that allows that the protective elements can be nested efficiently, reducing the transport and storage volume by up to 75%.
The new series of thermoformed protective elements start with two design variants, each available in two different materials and immediately available from stock: The ECO universal protection GPN 400 made of polystyrene (PS) and GPN 401 made of polyethylene terephthalate (PET) as well as the ECO grip plug with GPN 480 lateral grip tab made of PS and GPN 481 made of PET. The PS articles are supplied in the signal color yellow and are easy to recognize for quick disassembly. The products made of PET, on the other hand, are crystal clear and are particularly suitable for applications in which underlying components should be visible even after the protective element has been attached. The new standard series offer secure clamping for diameter ranges between 57 and 130 mm providing protection for a wide range of applications.
Thermoforming or injection molding, standard articles or custom-made products - customers benefit from the extended range of services offered by the plastics specialist. Because Pöppelmann KAPSTO®’s goal is to provide open-ended advice in order to always offer the best solution for every application, as Matthias Grewing, Regional Sales Manager and Project Manager, explains: “The demand for particularly thin-walled articles has always been very high. So far, we have found attractive injection mold solutions, but the newly introduced process is the ideal solution in many cases. We are particularly proud that we have already achieved automotive production standards with the newly introduced process.”
