Environmental and climate protection are becoming ever more important for consumers. However, the modern lifestyle poses a challenge to packaging designers as well as to the environment: Europeans generate 25 million tons of plastic waste each year. As an industrial plastics processing company, we are therefore committed to making our products and processes as environmentally friendly as possible. This starts with our products designed according to eco-design specifications and ends with a closed material loop. We call this endeavour PÖPPELMANN blue®.

The issues of resource conservation and environmental awareness are also becoming increasingly important in the packaging industry. Particularly with regard to product development and design, the life cycles of the materials as well as the functional and economic aspects must be weighed up to achieve the best solution.

This is why we are strongly committed to eco-design principles here at Pöppelmann FAMAC®. We reduce our consumption of materials by means of resource-saving article concepts and efficient production processes. At the same time, products are designed to be used many times. And wherever possible, we strive to achieve a circular economy through innovative recycling concepts.

Established and energy-saving.

Ultrasonic welding is the established method of sealing packaging because it promises visually flawless weld seams that are also airtight and waterproof. By eliminating adhesives and solvents, it also opens up the possibility of homogeneous recycling so that resource conservation is not neglected. Since short welding processes consume less energy, ultrasonic welding is generally extremely environmentally friendly – and delivers flawless results.

The advantages at a glance:

  • Established process for unobtrusive and extremely durable weld seams on sensitive monomaterial packaging made of PE or PP – or even PCR.
  • Helps improve the recyclability of product packaging.
  • Lower energy consumption combined with higher cycle speeds during production.
  • Customised caps in special designs (e.g. hinged lid version) are also possible.
  • Pouches require less material than other packaging solutions.

Resource conservation by means of monomaterials.

Low-temperature sealing offers an excellent alternative for companies that do not want to invest in ultrasonic machines. Specially designed PE and PP material combinations also deliver process-reliable results even at low sealing temperatures and are fully recyclable. The use of PCR materials also means that the material loop can be closed here. Low-temperature sealing can also be implemented easily on existing machines.

The advantages at a glance:

  • 100% recyclable since pouch, spout and cap will be manufactured consistently from PE or PP in future.

  • Even more resource-saving thanks to the use of PCR material.

  • Production-ready special solutions can also be adapted for monomaterials.

  • Customised caps in special designs (e.g. FlipTop cap) are also possible.

  • Pouches require less material than other packaging solutions.

  • Seamless implementation with high process reliability on existing machines – no extra investments required.

Closed material loop.

With our PÖPPELMANN blue® initiative, we strive to create closed material loops. Products should be converted into recyclate, and the recyclate should be turned again into products of the same quality. Our Low Sealing Spouts series already makes it possible. The spouts and caps are made of Post-Consumer Recycled Material (PCR) and are therefore recyclable and resource-saving.

The advantages at a glance:

  • The raw material loop is closed (closed loop).
  • The use of recycled plastics conserves fossil resources.
  • Recycling-friendly design (100% recyclable).
  • Supports the EU plastics strategy, which will only allow 100% recyclable packaging within the EU by 2030.
  • The demand for environmentally friendly and resource-saving packaging is growing rapidly.
