At the symposium, the packaging specialist presented modern weld spouts for stand-up pouches and caps for flexible packaging concepts.
In recent years, the demand for stand-up pouch packaging has increased significantly. That's because beside allowing products to be contained safely and hermetically. This type of packaging is also reclosable. For this reason, stand-up pouches are suitable for many different applications: from baby food with a choke resistant cap to self-heating soups to eat while on the go, right through to practical refill packaging for soaps and windscreen cleaners.
As one of the leading manufacturers of technical functional components and modern packaging, Pöppelmann FAMAC® was invited as a speaker at this year's European Stand-up Pouch Conference in Osnabrück. As part of the two-day conference, Mike Landwehr, Project Manager at Pöppelmann FAMAC®, reported about innovative packaging solutions in the field of stand-up pouches and gave an overview of our weld spouts and caps for flexible packaging concepts. He placed particular emphasis on the benefits of our standard program that we develop and produce in Lohne: For example, the intuitive design led to a higher user-friendliness, while individual high-quality looks improved marketing opportunities even further. At the same time, the product series were characterised by excellent machinability – whether when filling up the pouches on the rail or during welding and filling. This reduced costs and allowed the processing of various shapes of foil pouches and materials. At the same time, it satisfied the requirements of innovative welding methods such as ultrasonic welding, thermal welding and pulse welding.
The current Pöppelmann FAMAC® standard programme includes the four weld spout ranges from AE 001 to AE 004. The system is characterised by uniform dimensions, different opening diameters between 10.5 and 21.5 mm and an optimised welding contour for a more sophisticated look of the pouch. By the way, the bag can be filled either from the spout or through the open head seam of the pouch.
“One achieves the position as a market leader through innovative packaging, by renovating existing concepts and thus by providing customers with added value” explained Mike Landwehr in his lecture. For this reason, the family business from Lohne works continuously on innovations and introduces improved products as well as new ones on a regular basis.
“Pöppelmann FAMAC® also creates individual packaging solutions according to customer requirements”, added Mike Landwehr. In developing these custom-made designs, one places great importance on close cooperation with partners such manufacturers of pouch, foil or filling machines. Among other things, he also referred to successful product developments such as that of Evo-Stick, a special solution for DIY hypermarkets in the area of adhesive & sealants. “This custom solution, a development from a cartridge into the pouch, also achieved the Silverstar and Worldstar awards in 2013”, reported the project manager.
Moreover: Following the symposium, 30 participants from the specialised audience – consisting of engineers, buyers and sellers, as well as researchers and academics – visited the Pöppelmann factory in Lohne.
